The fastest growing city in the country is expanding
with a diversified economic mix that will stand
the test of time. McKinney's economic diversity
and success come from careful planning and leaders
willing to roll up their sleeves to work side by
side with new and existing businesses.
For over 10 years, the McKinney Economic Development
Corporationhas worked to grow McKinney's economy.
We assist in the creation of more than 7,000 new
jobs, recruited over 45 new corporations and increased
the regional economy by $3.6 billion. In 2004, McKinney
was awarded the Community Economic Development Award
(CEDA) by the Texas Economic Development Council.
As the economy grows and the Metroplex continues
its northward expansion, McKinney stands at both
the right time and the right place to capture tremendous
economic growth.

The McKinney Economic Development Corporation was
formed in May 1993 following a January 1993 referendum
by the voters of McKinney which permits the Corporation
to receive funds from a half-cent sales tax collected
for economic development. MEDC began accumulating
sales tax receipts effective July 1, 1993 and receives
approximately $3 million annually.
Funds received by MEDC are used to promote the economic growth of McKinney and give the Corporation flexibility to assist companies with infrastructure, training, and other items of key importance to the company and the community.
The MEDC Board is comprised of five voting members and two ex-officio members (City and MISD) and is professionally staffed by three economic development professionals and an administrative assistant. The mission of the MEDC states:
"The McKinney Economic Development Corporation will lead, direct and coordinate the broad-based expansion of the business tax base and promote sustainable job growth; thereby continuously enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of the McKinney Area."
